Trumbull Regional Medical Center Reverified as a Level III Trauma Center

Verified Trauma Center

The Trauma Center at Trumbull Regional Medical Center has been reverified as a Level III Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.

Established by the American College of Surgeons in 1987, the COT’s Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma care, but also the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This spectrum encompasses the prehospital phase through the rehabilitation process.

Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensures trauma care capability and institutional performance. The ACS Committee on Trauma's verification program provides confirmation that a trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality of trauma care for all injured patients. During the reverification process the hospital underwent a rigorous on-site review by a team of experienced site reviewers, who use the current Resources for the Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual as a guideline in conducting the survey.

“Being reverified as a Level III Trauma Center demonstrates our commitment to always providing the highest quality of emergency and trauma care to the community” said Dr. Penelope Mashburn, General Surgeon, Trauma Medical Director. “Everyone on our trauma team plays a vital role in our reverification, including nursing and clinical staff, general surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, critical care physicians, and our quality team. We also have partnerships with area EMS providers and paramedics to ensure we are providing quick and efficient, streamlined trauma care.” said Mashburn.

Trumbull Regional Medical Center’s Level III Trauma Center has the expertise to provide rapid assessment, resuscitation, emergency operations, intensive care, and stabilization of injured patients.
