Heart Month Staff Spotlight: Bill Romigh

Heart Month Staff Spotlight
Meet Cardiovascular Navigator Bill Romigh, RN

How long have you been at Trumbull Regional Medical Center?
I’ve been at Trumbull Regional Medical Center for five years as an RN. Coronary care has been my home here for the past three years.

Where did you attend school?
I received my bachelor’s in nursing at Kent State University.

What inspired you to get into the medical field?
I have family in the medical field who encouraged me to get into the profession, so there was some familiarity there. I took their advice and have enjoyed my experience ever since.

Describe your responsibilities as the Cardiovascular Navigator
This is a new position that started at the end of 2018. I’m responsible for working as a liaison between physicians and patients to make sure their experience goes smoothly.
We want our patients and their families to feel safe and leave here without any questions about their care.
There’s also a quality component with the job; my responsibilities call for me to be actively involved with our chest pain accreditation. The job is steadily evolving, too, and I’m excited about that.

Why is the cardiovascular navigator position so important to have on staff?
In general, I feel the cardiovascular navigator position is important to help Trumbull’s Cardiac Program grow. It designates a person who can help pay attention to the specific needs of the patients and staff, needs that might otherwise be overlooked. The navigator position gives our Quality Department the clinical ability to deal with problems real-time and to work on preventing them in the future.

How do you manage this new role in addition to your responsibilities as an RN?
As a nurse, every day is unpredictable. I’m taking it all one day at a time, one task at a time. I still pick-up work in the ICU, CCU and ER, so it’s very busy, but I’m really enjoying it.

What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
I have a 19-month-old son taking up all my time right now, and I could not be happier; all about family time. I’m also a big outdoorsman, I enjoy hunting, fishing and boating.

What do you enjoy most about working at Trumbull Regional Medical Center?
The staff and the patients. To have the privilege to make a difference in someone’s life every day is unbelievable. It’s a joy to come to work.
