Trumbull Memorial Hospital Celebrates Arrival of Advanced Patient Simulator

(WARREN, OH – February 1, 2016) Trumbull Memorial Hospital held an open house event yesterday to celebrate the arrival of an advanced patient simulator that will be used to help improve patient outcomes as well as enhance the clinical skills of the hospital’s nursing staff.

The wireless simulator represents an average-size adult patient with realistic anatomy and clinical functionality. It displays neurological symptoms as well as physiological. For example, it bleeds, sweats, blinks, breathes, and talks as a real person does. It is designed to respond to numerous medical procedures including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), intubation, resuscitation, drug administration and defibrillation.

Members of the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary were on hand to witness a demonstration of the simulator, as well as receive a plaque from Trumbull Memorial chief executive officer John Walsh.

“We want to thank the Women’s Auxiliary for their generous donation that enabled us to purchase the simulator,” said Walsh. “This tool will help promote patient safety, benefit clinical skills teaching and provide numerous opportunities for team training.”

According to Walsh, it will also help:

  • Improve patient outcomes by developing clinical reasoning and skills for all Trumbull Memorial nursing staff
  • Improve responses to actual critical patient scenarios/emergencies
  • Teach new nursing staff assessment of adult patients, and how emergencies are handled at Trumbull Memorial. Emergencies can include cardiac arrests and chest pain alerts.
  • Build the skills of local EMTs and paramedics, helping them with team training

The simulator is housed in the Education Center at the hospital. For more information, call the Education Department at 330-841-9880.
