Meet the Family Medicine Residency Faculty

Paul A. Rich, M.D.

Rich Paul

Paul A. Rich, MD, became the Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program in August of 2011. He is a native Ohioan, from Girard - a suburb of Youngstown. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Microbiology from Miami University of Ohio, and his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio (Toledo) in 1995. In 1999, he completed his residency training at the Western Reserve Health Education Family Medicine Program and built a very successful private practice upon graduation. In 2019, he returned to school and earned an MBA from Youngstown State University.

In addition to his Program Director and practice commitments, Dr. Rich holds an appointment with the American University of Antigua College of Medicine as Adjunct Professor for Clinical Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, OH. He has served as the regional VP and national ACO president for Steward Health Care Network as well as the Chief Medical Officer of our previous affiliated medical center.

His professional memberships include the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Association of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. His honors include the 2003 NEOMED Outstanding Teacher of the Year award and Chief Resident in his final year of residency.

Dr. Rich enjoys the full spectrum of Family Medicine with specific interests in women’s health including obstetrics, predictive and preventive medicine, and genetic testing for cardiovascular disease as well as various genetic cancer syndromes. He enjoys spending time with his family, especially his four children, traveling, scuba diving, and is a die-hard Notre Dame and Cleveland sports fan.

Szymon Krzyzanowski, M.D.

Szymon Krzyzanowski, MD

Szymon Krzyzanowski, MD, is the Associate Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency at WRHE.  He is originally from Chicago, IL and received his B.A. in Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2003. He earned his medical degree from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland and completed a three-year Family Medicine Residency at Western Reserve Health Education, where he served as Chief Resident in his final year of residency.

Immediately following his residency graduation in 2011, he became a full-time Faculty Member at WRHE. Dr. Krzyzanowski enjoys the full spectrum of family medicine, with particular interest in pre-diabetic testing, advanced lipid testing and preventive health. He also has a great interest in obesity and weight loss management.

Dr. Krzyzanowski has always had a passion for academic medicine and is now the clerkship director for the medical students who rotate through the Family Medicine Residency Program. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Family Physicians and The American Medical Association.

Dr. Krzyzanowski is a big fan of the Chicago Bears and Manchester United. His hobbies include aquariums and skiing.

Roman Davidenko, M.D.

Roman Davidenko

Dr. Davidenko earned his BS in Biology in 2007 from the University of Akron and his MD from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (now known as Northeast Ohio University) in 2011. He completed his residency at Western Reserve Health Education in June 2014 and immediately joined the faculty in the Family Medicine Program. He enjoys singing, snowboarding, jet-skiing, rock climbing and volleyball.

Apurva Padubidri, M.D.

Apurva Padubidri, MD, is from Canfield- a suburb of Youngstown, OH. Dr. Padubidri earned her B.S. from Kent State University and her medical degree from St. Matthew's University School of Medicine in Grand Cayman. She is also a graduate of the Western Reserve Health Education Family Medicine Residency Program, serving as Chief Resident in her final year graduating in 2017.

Dr. Padubidri began as a full-time faculty member with Western Reserve Health Education in August 2017 and is a member of Steward Medical Group. She is particularly passionate about preventative medicine, obesity management, and adolescent medicine. She loves spending time with her family, friends, and her dog, Lando. She also enjoys traveling, reading, fitness, and Cleveland sports.

Kayla Milano, M.D.

Kayla Milano, MD, is a native of Sacramento, CA. Dr. Milano earned her BS from Fordham University in the Bronx, NY, in 2011 and subsequently completed a post baccalaureate premedical program at NYU in 2013. She earned her medical degree from Ross University school of Medicine in 2017 and completed her residency at Fox Valley Family Residency in Appleton, WI in 2020. During residency, Dr. Milano gained experience in prenatal care, uncomplicated deliveries, women’s health and mental health. During residency, she completed the Andrew Weill Integrative Medicine Fellowship. She also completed extra coursework in point of care Ultrasound (POCUS) and Prenatal US.

After graduating residency in 2020, she moved to the Shenango Valley to join her husband, who is completing his residency in Internal Medicine. For the last year, she has been working full-time in a clinic setting serving adults and children in Hermitage, PA. She chose to join WHRE family medicine residency program because she has an interest in teaching.

What she loves most about family medicine is the treating the mother-infant dyad, from preconception through the infant and mother’s first year. Her future interests within medicine are gaining more experience in Functional Medicine and Integrative medicine.

When not working, she loves to care for her two young sons and partake in every ounce of fun they bring.

Joseph Marzano, M.D.

Joseph Marzano, MD

Joseph Marzano, PhD,  was born and raised in Youngstown and has been a provider of mental health services to the residents of Youngstown and surrounding communities since 1994. Dr. Marzano earned his B.A. in Psychology in 1992 from Bowling Green State University. Since 1995, he’s been licensed in the state of Ohio as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and completed his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Walden University in 2006.

In 1998, Dr. Marzano transitioned from working in the public mental health sector to working in the private sector. He established his private practice in 2003 and joined the faculty as the Director of Behavioral Sciences for the WRHE Family Medicine Residency in 2010.

Dr. Marzano has a passion for teaching others and this is evident in his role as internship site supervisor for Youngstown State University and Kent State University and serving as a student advisor in adolescent development with students in local school districts. He holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor with Argosy University teaching General Psychology and Interpersonal Effectiveness courses. His professional memberships include Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist Board of Ohio, Mahoning County Psychotherapist Guild, Chi Sigma Iota-Professional Honors Society and he is the President of Advanced Counseling Solutions in Austintown, Ohio.

Professionally, Dr. Marzano has special interests in anxiety disorders and social and family dynamics. Personally, he enjoys any outdoor sports, hunting and fishing.
