Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring CT Scan

Coronary Calcium Scoring is a convenient and non-invasive way of evaluating whether you may be at an increased risk for a heart attack. Using the CT, information is obtained about the presence, location and extent of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries - the vessels that supply oxygen containing blood to the heart muscle. This disease of the vessel wall is also known as Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). The goal is to determine if CAD is present and to what extent, even if there are no symptoms. The entire procedure including the actual CT scanning is completed in about 15 minutes and requires no injection of contrast material.
