Modern diagnostic technology that has the capability to detect cancer at the earliest stages, when it can be treated most effectively. Our Center for Breast Health offers digital mammography, high-resolution ultrasound and minimally invasive breast biopsy services.

Early Detection and Diagnosis

Discovering cancer at the earliest stages offers the best opportunity for successful treatment. Accurate diagnosis is a crucial part of developing an effective treatment plan, and our oncologists have the expertise to diagnose and plan a comprehensive treatment strategy through:

  • Imaging technology that provide a detailed picture of internal organs and tissues to detect cancer.
  • Breast cancer detection such as digital mammography and breast MRI.
  • Biopsy to determine whether cells are cancerous and if so, determine the type and stage of cancer. Imaging technology — such as MRI, CT and ultrasound — are often combined with minimally invasive techniques to obtain tissue samples.

Treatment

Our multidisciplinary cancer care team includes primary care doctors, oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, nurses, pain management specialists, dieticians and other professionals who work together to provide individualized care.

  • Chemotherapy: Uses chemicals to destroy or slow the growth of cancer cells. Surgeons often use chemotherapy in conjunction with surgery to destroy surrounding tissue after a tumor is removed.
  • Radiation Therapy: Used to precisely target radiation to destroy cancer cells and minimize damage to healthy, surrounding tissue.
  • Surgery: When surgery presents the best option, doctors utilize minimally invasive techniques whenever possible, including robotic surgery, which gives surgeons greater precision and can offer patients less scarring and a faster recovery.

Follow-Up Care

Follow-up care includes regular medical checkups, which include a physical exam and other imaging or lab tests, depending on the type of cancer to check for recurrence or spread of cancer to another part of the body, provide early detection of other types of cancer, or address ongoing problems associated with treatment. In most cases, follow-up visits are recommended every three or four months during the first few years after treatment, and once or twice a year after that, but the frequency and type of follow-up care depends on the individual.

We will provide you with a detailed follow-up plan after treatment, so you’ll know when to come in for checkups, symptoms to look for, and useful resources such as support groups or other services to enhance your recovery. During your follow-up visits, you should tell your doctor about:

  • Symptoms you think may be a sign that your cancer has returned.
  • Any physical problems that interfere with regular activities, such as pain or fatigue; bladder, bowel or sexual function problems; difficulty concentrating or memory changes; sleep problems; and weight gain or loss.
  • Medicines, vitamins or herbs you’re taking, or any treatments you’re using.
  • Emotional problems, such as anxiety or depression.
  • Changes in your family medical history, including any new cancers.
